How long does it really take to find a job in Australia

“Today we learned via the seek employment search website that  finding a job in Australia can take considerably more time than it did a decade ago. Some Australians have been looking for up to 6 months.”

Lots of job seekers are facing some enormous challenges, with lack of income, motivation and the feeling of despondency before they can land the correct job. If you are looking for employment there are some tips to help stay motivated during the recruitment process.

  • Be realistic about the time it will take you. 60% of Australians feel that looking for a new job is a huge task and for good reason. Ensure you’ve set up your SEEK Profile for better exposure to potential employers.
  • Remain in your current role. If you’re currently in a job, it’s advisable to stay put while you seek something more suitable.
  • Keep things in perspective. If you are not so enthusiastic by the lack of job opportunities there is actually some good news out there for job seekers in certain industries such as accounting and communication technology.
  • Don’t settle for second best. Keep searching and make sure you don’t accept a job or lower your salary expectations just because it’s the next best thing.
